What language you speak ?

I read a thread on “Crazyengineers.com” about many languages on earth dying. Here is a link to that:

This makes me to write a post here. I’m agree to the statement. Many languages are dying every year. Globalization is forcing us to use English more and more, reducing use of other languages. I agree that English is a language of business, language of science and all. I am not against learning it and using it as a part of business life. But what I’m against is using it as a communication media of day-to-day life. In India, many Parents are opting English as a medium for Primary and secondary education of their kids. I think, English could be taught as a language, but why does one need to learn all the subjects in English. Its funny to learn our history in other people’s language. I wonder if any student from such English medium would have asked ‘if we fought against British and made them leave the country why are we using their language”. Now even it is said that when one learns something in his mother-tongue, it is well grasped as compared to when you learn it in some other language. Still one can see many English medium schools opening every year.
The harm in this is, English is becoming (or has already become ??) replacement for your mother tongue. we use many words from English as a replacement to the words in other languages. If this continues to be likes this, more and more words will be replaced by English words causing an entire language to be replaced by English.
One of my friend asked ‘If this happens, what’s harm in it ?’ As per him, people could go in any part of world and would be able to communicate to anyone. Benefit agreed, but one cannot sacrifices his mother-tongue die for this benefit.
What I feel is that one should use English only for business purpose and use his mother tongue in day-to-days life. This will keep the languages alive and next generations won’t have to miss their mother’s language.

The Presidential election which is said as Mother of all election declared the most powerful Man in the world. Obama appealed American people for change and they responded him with a change. Mr Perfectionist is set to go with his much awaited new movie named “Ghajini”. Amir has taken lot of efforts for his new film after “Tare Zamin par”. He is known in bollywood for his versatile acting skills, his efforts to live the characters. Ghajini is the story of a person who loses his short term memory, and who wants to take revenge of killer of his wife. Amir has built his muscles and have made a special hair-cut for Gajini. CHANDRAYAAN 1

After the successful history of launching satellites to space, India now has taken a mission of sending its first lunar craft to moon. This will enable scientists to get more information about moon.
ISRO says : “In Chandrayaan-1, the lunar craft would be launched using Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) weighing 1304 kg at launch and 590 kg at lunar orbit. Lunar craft would orbit around moon 100 km from moon surface.”
This space craft will be launched from Shriharikota on 22nd October 2008.
Here is an excerpt from ISRO’s website :
“The Chandrayaan-1 mission is aimed at high-resolution remote sensing of the moon in visible, near infrared(NIR), low energy X-rays and high-energy X-ray regions. Specifically the objectives will be
A) To prepare a three-dimensional atlas (with a high spatial and altitude resolution of 5-10m) of both near and far side of the moon.
B) To conduct chemical and mineralogical mapping of the entire lunar surface for distribution of elements such as Magnesium, Aluminum, Silicon, Calcium, Iron and Titanium with a spatial resolution of about 25 km and high atomic number elements such as Radon, Uranium & Thorium with a spatial resolution of about 20 km.
Mission Objectives:
A) To realise the mission goal of harnessing the science payloads, lunar craft and the launch vehicle with suitable ground support systems including DSN station.
B) To realise the integration and testing, launching and achieving lunar polar orbit of about 100 km, in-orbit operation of experiments, communication/ telecommand, telemetry data reception, quick look data and archival for scientific utilization by identified group of scientists.”

Today is birth anniversary of Mr M K Gandhi also know as Mahatma Gandhi. The world is celebrating it as a “Non-violence day”. The man played a very big role in India’s independence. He always proposed non-violence against British when India fought for independence. He’s values seem forgotten today. What needs this country is to follow his thoughts for heading towards brighter and peaceful country. I salute the Man who showed a path of non-violence to the world !
What is a differential ?

Differential is a mechanical device used between rear wheels of a four-wheeler vehicles. Typically 4-wheelers are rear wheel driven i.e. power is given to rear wheels . When a vehicle takes a turn it’s inner wheels have to undergo less number of revolutions whereas outer wheels have to undergo more number of revolutions. Now as front wheels are free (not powered) to revolve, they can suit themselves to required number of revolutions. But that is not the case with rear wheels. They are powered, hence their number of revolutions are controlled. A differential is a unit which governs the number of revolutions of both the rear wheels in order to take a turn without skidding. i.e. it provides more revolutions to outer wheel whereas less number of revolutions to inner wheel. Also it provides same speed to both the rear wheels when vehicle is travelling straight.
Really ? Is it?
Unlike Microsoft word, you have to explicitly ask for spell check. It doesn’t highlight spelling errors as you type. After you finish typing, and when you click on spellchecker, it takes some time to highlight the errors. After that you would see many correct words highlighted as spelling errors. Now for the person like me who’s poor in spellings, it’s confusing. Many times part of the word is treated as a separate word and suggestion is given for that. Also if a word starts with capital letter, part of word which is in small letters is treated as a separate word resulting in spelling error. 😦
To overcome this I had to type in microsoft word, then copy-paste it to notepad and then again copy-paste to wordpress editor. That was a long way. Any suggestion for this ???
Google Sites: Not appealing

Recently I was looking for a website-building service. Of course my first choice was to look for google if it provides that service. Now google has stopped “Google Pages” and come up with new thing called as “Google Sites”. I had a tour of this service and I didn’t find it appealing. Let me tell you what it has and what it doesn’t. Google sites is a service for building your website for free. You just have to have a google account i.e. gmail address. With that you log-in to google sites and start building a website. Simplicity is the good feature that google offers like it’s other products, but the themes available are too short to choose from. Moreover page design is fixed. A header, a sidebar, main page content and footer. That’s it: A single page layout. A variety of background colors and text colors are available. A very few inbuilt widgets are available. Moreover you cannot embed external widgets, nor you can embed google gadgets. That is something I hated most. HTML editing is available for text only.
Website address is one worse thing with google sites. You will get website address something like this: :http://sites.google.com/site/yourwebsite. Now this kind of web address is not appealing, where the name you choose comes at last. Now, I didn’t check if yourdomain.com can be used but I guess, not.
To conclude it’s kind of other google services. Simple, can play with texts, but boring looks, limited designs, poor webaddress.
